What is global warming and greenhouse effect?
1. Greenhouse effect- The greenhouse effect can be described as the trapping of Sun’s heat within the earth’s lower atmosphere. The common greenhouse gases found in Earth’s atmosphere are Methane (CH4), Ozone (O3), Water vapor (H2O), Carbon dioxide (CO2), Nitrous oxide (N2O), Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), etc.
2. Global Warming- The increasing average temperature of the earth’s climate system is known as global warming. Global warming can have a drastic impact on the environment and can cause glaciers to melt, climate change, etc.
Causes of Global Warming:
1. Due to Greenhouse Effect:
The Earth's atmosphere behaves like a big greenhouse. Gases like carbon dioxide and methane behave like a huge piece of curved glass wrapped around the earth. The suns rays pass straight through these greenhouse gases and warm up the planet adds to the heating of the atmosphere and result in global warming.
2. Due to Human Activities:
There are various causes of global warming. Deforestation due to industrial and economic purposes along with the excess burning of fossil fuels like natural gas, oil, and coal, has increased the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide causing global warming. Some consequences of global warming are climate change, the rise of sea level, etc.
